This week’s gin comes courtesy of Gloucestershire based Twisting Spirits who got our attention from the minute we spotted their bottle! Bold, blocky & very clever in the detail, the bottles are shaded to represent the quantities and flavours within. We started to look into them and realised the initial idea for this gin came from Mary & Richard’s shared love of Thai Green Curry! I mean, we just had to try it…

They launched back in 2017 with the ambition of creating distinctive and unusual Craft Gins and that’s exactly what they have accomplished with this one. They started off distilling in their tiny converted garage in Oxfordshire before expanding to their larger unit in Gloucestershire.

What we particularly love about this brand is that they still distil, fill and label each and every bottle by hand. Each bottle is passionately produced using hot and cold distillation techniques & it’s through this unique dual distillation process that makes their gin’s flavour so distinctive.

The alcohol and ten botanicals (2 are pictured) are slowly distilled in a traditional copper alembic pot still. You have your usual botanicals in here along with an emphasis on kaffir lime & lemongrass. This is then diluted with pure water to a drinkable 41.5% where the flavours and aromas are perfectly expressed.

Meanwhile, the lighter speciality botanicals are cold distilled, under vacuum using a rotary evaporator. Finally, the two distillations are ‘twisted’ together to produce this freshly balanced gin.

NOSE – citronella with a hint of floral.
TASTE – cardamon is present with the kaffir lime shortly following.

We have served ours with Schweppes Cucumber Tonic with a chunky slice of lime for an extra refreshing finish, this will most definitely be our go-to drink for summer! It reminds us of your classic Hendricks but with a flavoursome twist, these guys quite literally are ‘Twisting Spirits’!

GREAT NEWS to hear they’re planning on creating more gins for us to try…
