Our next #GinTasting Review is on the Himalayan inspired Boxer Gin, one of Chloe’s favourites! In the words of the founder, Mark Hill ‘the concept for this gin was simple: to create the finest, classical style gin possible, using the best ingredients and most advanced techniques’. This gin makes reference to a much-loved English sport during colonial times, it was named after Thomas King the notable 19th century boxer nicknamed ‘The Fighting Sailor’, who famously enjoyed gin as part of his pre-fight ritual. It’s bottled at 40% ABV for the UK market and is a refreshing addition to the gin scene.

The Boxer is a crisp London Dry Gin with an intense, complex, vibrant flavour and aroma which comes from their signature fresh botanicals. It’s made using wheat from the East of England, the pure wheat spirit is then fermented and sitilled in a two-way process involving new and age-old techniques (modern tower still & a copper still).

Angela, their 114-year-old copper pot still heats the spirit to produce vapour that condenses to form a gin. With eight botanicals distilled, they then add Himalayan juniper distillate and bergamot. The total distillation process takes around 20 hours! Black juniper is a rare varietal of the berry that only grows in the UV rich, pollution-free environment of the high Himalayas. The prominent citrus notes come from the fresh cut peel of the Bergamot, grown organically in the sun-drenched groves of southern Italy.

We’ve served ours with Fever-Tree Indian Tonic Water, accompanied by dried orange peel to balance out the blend of juniper, warm aromatic spices, floral roots & citrus tones. The piney notes compliment a perfumed citrus profile whilst the nutmeg helps with a lingering finish, long after finishing your G&T.

Boxer Gin certainly packs just as much of a punch as Thomas King and is superb, highly recommend
