This weeks #MiniatureMonday features our North of England friends at The Lakes Distillery. The Lakes Gin comes from Cumbria where Paul Currie, the original founder of the distillery restored a Victorian cattle farm into a world-class production facility of quality spirits.
In 2010, while on holiday with his family in the Lake District National Park, he realised that this was ‘perfect whisky country’ – a magnificent landscape, the lakes, the peaty foothills, the pure air and water. After a huge investment and 3 year development plan, the Distillery opened in December 2014.
The Lakes Distillery use locally sourced juniper, as well as more botanicals from the surrounding areas, including bilberries, heather and meadowsweet, among other classic gin botanicals. Bright and sweet with fruity, floral qualities, accompanied by a good helping of citrus notes throughout.
THE ORIGINAL LAKES GIN (43.7% ABV)
The Lakes Gin is their classic artisan spirit with vibrant notes of juniper accompanied by delicate notes of orange peel and lemon citrus.
A well balanced palate of nine carefully selected botanicals macerated for up to 18 hours in warmed British wheat spirit, along with pure Cumbrian water. Gently distilled for an unusually unhurried amount of time, resulting in an exceptionally smooth gin.
TO TASTE
Fresh and fruity with vibrant notes of refreshing juniper, grassy vanilla & a touch of orange peel and lemon citrus appearing later on. Easy drinking and refreshing!
RECOMMENDED SERVE
Our favourite is with Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic Water and a generous slice of pink grapefruit.
ELDERFLOWER LIQUEUR (25% ABV)
A delicious elderflower gin liqueur made with the award winning Lakes Gin.
The Lakes Elderflower Gin Liqueur is a vibrant and floral twist on a traditional gin. Lakes Elderflower Gin Liqueur is created with the beautifully crafted Lakes Gin at the heart of the spirit, distilled in the Lake District. This irresistible spirit delivers a fine balance of delicate elderflower and hints of juniper. Enjoy it as a long spritz with tonic, lemon, lime and cucumber slices.
TO TASTE
Fresh and fruity. Fresh Elderflower, juniper berries and hints of coriander.
RECOMMENDED SERVE
Add a measure of gin to a glass of Prosecco or try a long spritz with slices of lemon, lime and cucumber with tonic. Although Chloe has recently discovered how delicious it pairs with a cloudy fresh-pressed apple juice!
